Eligible Project Types
The types and scopes of projects supported by the Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit are listed below.
General Research Projects (44001): These are individual or interdisciplinary scientific research and development projects with a maximum duration of 36 (thirty-six) months, available to Malatya Turgut Özal University faculty members and researchers who have completed their PhD, specialty in medicine, proficiency in art, or equivalent specialty training.
Rapid Support Projects (44002): Low-budget projects with a maximum duration of 12 months, intended to support research that has the potential to evolve into a TÜBİTAK or general research project, or to support research on natural disasters (e.g., earthquakes, landslides, avalanches) and situations adversely affecting humanity (e.g., epidemics, etc.).
Graduate Thesis Projects (44003): Research projects covering graduate (Master's/PhD) and specialty in medicine theses conducted at Malatya Turgut Özal University, led by the thesis supervisor together with their student(s).
Undergraduate Student Research Projects (44004): Research projects designed to foster an R&D culture, encourage research activities, and promote research among successful students enrolled in full-time education programs at Malatya Turgut Özal University's undergraduate units (providing 4-year or longer degrees). Faculty members, acting as supervisors, serve as the Principal Investigators (PIs) for these projects. To be eligible as a researcher, undergraduate students must have successfully completed their first 4 semesters and have a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 3.00. Students with a CGPA below this limit cannot participate in these projects. The project must be in the nature of a research project. Within this project support, only the costs of consumables, tools, and service procurement required for the research are covered. Expenses such as computers, printers, stationery, and travel are not funded by the project. No additional budget or time extensions are granted. The project duration can be a minimum of 4 (four) and a maximum of 9 (nine) months. Faculty members (PIs) are limited to running 2 (two) student projects simultaneously. A progress report is not required for this project type. Submitting the final report to the BAP automation system upon completion is sufficient. There is no publication requirement.
Priority Area Research Projects (44005): Projects in priority areas determined by the University Senate upon the recommendation of the BAP Commission, aligned with the science and technology policies of the Presidency Science, Technology and Innovation Policies Council, Ministries, TÜBİTAK, and the university. These projects, with a maximum duration of 24 (twenty-four) months, are eligible for higher budgets than other support programs.
Early Career Support Projects (44006): Projects designed to support the research of academic personnel at Malatya Turgut Özal University who have completed their doctoral, specialty in medicine, proficiency in art, or equivalent training. Eligible applicants must hold academic positions other than Associate Professor or Professor and must not have previously served as a Principal Investigator on any research project that received funding.
International Research Collaboration and Participation Projects (44007): Research projects conducted by researchers from Malatya Turgut Özal University in collaboration with researchers from international universities or research centers under a joint protocol, or as partners in international projects.
Performance Support Projects (44008): Projects proposed by researchers at Malatya Turgut Özal University with high publication and project performance. The support is intended for the procurement of machinery, equipment, and materials needed for research, or for participation in scientific events. For scientific event participation proposals, the performance indicators, criteria, eligible expense items (travel, per diem, accommodation, registration fees), and budget are determined by the Commission's decision and the Rector's approval. Applicants whose projects are accepted under this type may reapply for the same project type only after 2 (two) years. If supported researchers voluntarily withdraw from the support, they may reapply for this project type only after 2 (two) years.

The support amount for an event cannot exceed the amount provided for Graduate Thesis Projects. The eligible expenses and the final support amount are determined by the Commission.
University-Industry Cooperation Projects (44010): Research projects prepared by university researchers with the participation of national or international private sector institutions and organizations. In this project type, the collaborating institution or organization is expected to contribute at least 30% to the budget and/or provide access to research infrastructure (not available at our university) for project use.
Infrastructure Projects (44011): Projects aimed at developing scientific units or centers such as research laboratories, libraries, museums, herbariums, and greenhouses. These projects also cover various needs like materials, substances, software, spare parts, calibration, and analysis required for conducting research in the university's academic units.
